SOME INTERESTING QUEEN'S UNIVERSITY HISTORYIt was widely known amongst elder Kingstonians that Queen's Campus was a virtual magnet for dead humans. This is documented well into the twentieth century. Human bodies were obtained from body snatchers employed by Queen's students in the later part of the eighteen hundreds and early nineteen hundreds. These bodies even included that of the FIRST ARCHBISHOP of Kingston, Father James Vincent Cleary who died in 1898 and was to be buried in the then new chapel of Saint Mary's Cathedral. Other Kingston Bishops were fortunate to be buried in the cathedral crypt embedded in limestone bedrock in the church basement — well out of reach of Queen’s.
The control freaks at Queen's are currently hard at work wrangling control of the Hotel Dieu Hospital away from its current administrators – The Religious Hospitallers of Saint Joseph Health System. Queen’s is of course using its tested and proven array of techniques: reality distortion, secret power games, threats, arrogance and good old-fashion lying. The goal here: inflate even grander the immense ego that thrives within the crumbling limestone halls of the University. What Queen’s really wants is to have one University Hospital which reflects only the "interests and priorities of the University." It would like the community at large to believe that these are the same interests as are held by the community at large. (Sort of like claiming that the rat will benefit from the learning experience achieved in the maze while receiving jolts of electricity into it's brain)
Boards, courts, commissions and committees stacked with Queen's affiliates and sympathizers have fought to block any democratic review or independent community voice – and want to enforce the directives enacted through the Health Services Restructuring Commission (headed by the former Dean of Medicine at Queen's – Duncan Sinclair) This change is to be rammed down the throat of the population.
The overwhelming majority of the citizens in the community oppose the ludicrous plans which will certainly never see any “new” outrageously expensive, over-hyped and ill-considered hospital built once the Hotel Dieu Hospital is securely under Queen’s control and Queen’s can ensure that all competing and countervailing viewpoints are arrogantly crushed.
Now, then if Queen's actually cared about health care AND education they might reconsider extorting an additional two grand from each of the medical residents at the beginning of the next session.
