ABOUT 25 FREE TIPS...
to (ab)using 25 words or less...
- Proofread carefully to see you have any words out.
- Don't repeat yourself or say what you have already said before.
- Remember to never split an infinitive.
- Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
- Subject and verb always has to agree.
- Use the apostrophe in it's proper place and omit it when its not needed.
- Do not put statements in a negative form.
- Don't be redundant; don't use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous!
- Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences, as of 10 or more words, to their antecedents.
- If you reread your work, you can find on rereading a great deal of repetition can be avoided by editing.
- Placing a comma between subject and the predicate, is not correct.
- Parenthetical words however must be enclosed in commas.
- Consult a dictionary frequently to avoid mispelling.
- A writer must not shift your point of view.
- And don’t start a sentence with a conjunction.
- Don't overuse exclamation marks!!!!
- Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.
- If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is.
- Everyone should be careful to use a singular pronoun with singular nouns in their writing.
- Always pick on the correct idiom.
- The adverb always follows the verb.
- Hopefully, you will use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.
- Never use a long word when a diminutive one will suffice.
- Avoid colloquial stuff.
- Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
- Contractions aren't necessary.
- One should never generalize.
- No sentence fragments.
- One-word sentences? Eliminate.
- The passive voice is always to be avoided.
- Avoid alliteration. Always.
- PROFANITY SUCKS!
- Be more or less specific.
- Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are unnecessary.
- Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
- Avoid clichés like the plague, seek viable alternatives.
- Mixed metaphors are a pain in the neck and should be thrown out the window.
- It behoves the wordsmith to avoid archaic expressions.
- Who needs rhetorical questions?
- Remember to finish what
