This is the family line for a friend who is internet-impaired, and all family data included here is his property. The bold, italicized text is added information I located in sources other than the original manuscript, which was written by E. Murray Taylor and remains his sole property and copyright 1997-2004.

In some cases, Murray disagreed with my added bits, or at least felt there wasn't sufficient proof of the information presented. There are also some sibling lines I've extended, which weren't shown initially. The main focus is to sort out, once and for all, the three wives of William Marshall, #1A2D-7, and determine which children are the issue of which spouse.

This is NOT my family information, and I have posted it here with his permission. I will forward to him, via snail mail, all queries and information provided. He will contact you directly.

In the spirit of family and family history research, and to encourage sharing of such information, I post it here. However, I do NOT wish to find some software company or individual making a profit by selling such information in ANY format. Infringement of this nature is gutless, unprincipled thievery.

	A. Thomas	b. 1655? 1655	d. May 1704

This John Marshall was the first Marshall in our line to come to
America. He was a Captain of Cavalry in the reign of Charles I of
England, and was a zealous supporter of the Crown. Unwilling to live
under the rule of Cromwell, he removed to Virginia with his family about
1650. He may have had other children, but Thomas is the only one whose
name has been handed down to us. John is thought to have died near
Dumfries, south of present-day Washington, DC in Virginia, where his
grave was once marked.

According to the book, "The Marshall Family", William Marshall was
born in Fauquier County, probably at Goose Creek, and died in Richmond.
His children are indicated to have all been born in Richmond. According
also to the book, Alice Adams, the firest wife, had three children, and
Mary Macon, the second wife, had two children. In my mind, there is some
question as to the order of the children and thus to their mother, but
the book is my authority for what is shown.

1A2D-7C.	Thomas G. Marshall	b. 26 Apr 1800	d. 08 Jul 1880
	Anne Eliza Harris	b. 17 Aug 1804	d. 28 Jun 1853
			married 15 Apr 1824

	Children:
	1. Daughter Marshall	b. 18 Apr 1825	d. 26 Oct 1830
	2. Anne Eliza Marshall	b. 15 Nov 1826	d. 16 Nov 1830
	3. George William Marshall	b. 09 Sep 1828	d. 25 Dec 1904
	4. Maria Louisa Marshall	b. 27 Aug 1830	d. 24 Jul 1872
	5. John R. Marshall	b. 17 Jun 1832	d. after 1885
	6. Robert A. Marshall	b. 06 Feb 1834	d. after 1885
	7. Lucy B. Marshall	b. 19 Jul 1836	d. after 1885
	8. Jane Taylor Marshall	b. 26 Oct 1841	d. 1917

Thomas G. and Anne Eliza Marshall are buried in a family burial
ground along with the two eldest daughters above at their home, "Locust
Hill", near Markham, Fauquier County, Virginia. The next page tells
about this historic old home.

Anne Eliza Harris was one of at least four red-headed daughters
of George Harris, a red-headed lawyer who served thirteen years in the
Legislature, and his wife, Mary. Anne is described in the book, "The
Marshall Family", as having been native to Tonisa County, Virginia,
which I believe is misprint for Louisa County.

Apparently, the Marshall family kept in touch with Anne Eliza's
family aftger her death, including the Noel and Moss families. Because
of this closeness, I have included a listing of the families of the
four Harris girls on a page following the history of "Locust Hill".
Many of my readers will remember May Noel and Baldwin Moss, among
others in this Harris line.

	George William Marshall	b. 09 Sep 1828	d. 25 Dec 1904
	Mary Ellen Anderson	b. 15 Nov 1827	d. May 1901
			married 14 Nov 1847

	Children:
	A. Bettie Marshall	b. 08 Oct 1848	d. 19 Dec 1914
	B. Angelina (Annie) Marshall	b. 15 Dec 1850	d. 03 Jun 1895
	C. Catherine (Kate) Marshall	b. 11 Jun 1853	d. 21 Oct 1918
	D. John Thomas Marshall	b. 08 Jan 1855	d. 04 Jul 1927

The book "The Marshall Family" shows Catherine being born in 1850
and Angelina in 1853, but certain family records lead me to believe that
these dates have been reversed, and I am showing them as I believe the
correct dates to be.

George William Marshall is believed to have been born at Locust
Hill, and is buried in the Anderson cemetery at Markham. This cemetery
is a small family cemetery and also is the burial place of Mary Ellen
Anderson's parents, Eli and Nancy Kile Anderson, and Mary Ellen.

In addition, it is the burial place of Thomas E. Anderson, a
brother of Mary Ellen Marshall, and his wife Martha, for whom Martha
Anderson Hoffman Taylor was named. In addition, it is the burial place
of William Overton, a Mosby's Ranger along with Thomas (Tommie) Anderson.

	5. Sarah Edith Hoffman	b. 19 Nov 1879	d. 18 Aug 1900
	6. Ruthanna Hoffman	b. 16 Jul 1882	d. 27 Jan 1891
	7. Martha Anderson Hoffman	b. 01 Jul 1885	d. 03 Nov 1970
	8. Wesley Atwood Hoffman	b. 21 Feb 1889	d. 08 Dec 1939

Bettie Marshall was born in Markham, Virginia, and Wesley Atwood
Hoffman was born in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Bettie Marshall Hoffman
died in Fairmont, West Virginia, and Wesley Atwood Hoffman died in
Staunton, Virginia. Both are buried in the Church Hill Cemetery in
Linden, Virginia.

It is of interest that Bettie Marshall's brother John Thomas
Marshall, 1A2D-7C-3D, married Mary Ellen Hoffman, a sister of Wesley
Atwood Hoffman. Thus, all children of these two couples are double
first cousins, and are also the only grandchildren of George William
Marshall and Mary Ellen Anderson Marshall.
