Over some time something temporary came along work-wise — for a few years — but that's over. I sometimes feel like I'm the Captain of the RMS Titanic: twenty-seven years of experience — all of it working against me…
Information Technology (IT) is a field where extensive experience is a giant millstone rather than an asset. One hopes for the best… but as I've learned, you have to always expect the worst.

The "gray hairs" as the old-timers like me are called within the IT industry are practically unemployable. As a single parent every day is a challenge – I find I can seldom plan more than seconds into the future, since something always seems to come out of nowhere! Teenagers! There's the poor tired old cat to turn to for a basic understanding about the meaning of life (it's certainly more help than philosophy courses).

Reality: I have way too much amsirahc (that's reverse charisma...cynical, hard biten and soooooooooooooooo bitter...) to be very much use to anyone any more.

My children always come first in this "Ma and Pa Kettle" equation of a family without the "Ma"...and they seem to be doing their best to launch free of the nest – as all good little mammals eventually should. I have several hobbies to otherwise waste my time as I enter retirement (aka Senile Squalor) …
